Squelch 1-9 works poorly for stock Baofengs UV5RA+ & UV5R firmware297 or 311.
The default values are around 40-49 out of 128.
A fix is to use custom values for each squelch setting,
2015 versions and onward of CHIRP allow this, weak VHF signals are around 26-35, see squelch for more info
squelch 0=off 1-9 is on @ level one only. not good.
this is being fixed in :CHIRP Radio Programming daily builds
UV5Rs have a slight delay on RX (so you wont hear special tones)
this is caused by POWER SAVE mode
1:4 has the most delay
N5R-213 FM will not remember FM frequency
